The original Thakur Mandir of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ramharipur, was a modest setup in a thatched hut during the early days. After the Ashrama’s inception, Swami Mahadevananda Maharaj established the first place of worship for Sri Ramakrishna. Daily rituals and spiritual practices began there, gradually involving the students and local devotees.
In 1999 the construction of a permanent temple structure began. The project gained momentum and the current beautifully constructed shrine was completed in 2019.
The Thakur Mandir now serves as the spiritual heart of the Ashrama, where daily pujas and rituals are performed. Throughout the year, especially during major festivals like Guru Purnima, Janmashtami, Durga Puja, and Ramakrishna Tithi Puja, the temple becomes a hub of spiritual celebration. Thousands of devotees, students, and monks from nearby and distant places participate in these grand events, creating an atmosphere of devotion and community harmony.
The Shiva Mandir at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ramharipur, holds significant historical and spiritual importance. During the time of Swami Maheshwarananda Maharaj, this ancient Shiva shrine began to be revitalized. As per the accounts, while digging the land near a large banyan tree (now the site of the temple), a Shivalinga was discovered. Recognizing its sanctity, regular worship began, and villagers from nearby areas gradually joined in the worship. In 2019 the temple was renovated and given a fresh structure, preserving its sacred legacy.
